For me, it's the having the ability to actually do something when things go bad onsite or at home. Whether it's ERT call out or St John's Ambulance calls in the country, I can be assured that I'm helping be part of the solution instead of standing by and watching.
It also gives a lot of unique experiences like BG4, ropes, and fire and you get to meet so many different people in the job.
