Helicopter Hoist Rescue
Wondering if there are any other helicopter hoist rescue people on the platform yet? If so, let’s throw some ideas around about our operations!
I’ll start. For safety lanyards for the hoist operators standing in the door, we utilize two points of connection to minimize the risk of becoming detached and taking a long fall. In the never ending quest to be safer, our department has gone through three different styles of carabiners to reduce the chance of becoming unintentionally detached. The downside to the “safer” attachment is that they have become increasingly difficult to quickly detach from in the event of a necessary emergency egress, for example in a crash landing.
Personally, I believe the risk of becoming detached unintentionally is reduced adequately by utilizing the two points of contact. Thoughts?
