Can you just CALMDOON?
Can you just CALMDOON?
We all know what pressure feels like. Sometimes, its good - the right amount of pressure puts us into a "flow" state. Too much though, and we end up overloaded - or "frazzle".
One technique for managing stress is the "CALMDOON" model.
This acronym is from the book Peak Performance Under Pressure, but is also available on the authors website at www.corecognition.co.uk
I first read it when it first came out, but seeing it on Audible peaked my interest again, so I'm currently working my way through the Audiobook version on my way to and from work each day. (corecognition.co.uk/...). And although I've not yet finished its been good for some self reflection for my own work and practice.
Dr Stephen Hearns is a consultant in emergency medicine and leading member of Scotland’s Emergency Medical Response Service. He's a man who knows a thing or two about pressure.
In my own practice, I'm also a big fan of the "Zero Point Survey" (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/...). It's used at a different moment in the job than CALMDOON, but I have found its worked very well for getting me off on the right foot so to speak.
Keen to hear what others think and how you deal with pressure in your roles!
